Group holidays always end the same way: someone covered the hotel, someone else paid for dinner, and three days later nobody remembers who owes whom. YouTrip, the travel e-wallet popular with Singaporeans, has launched a fix. Its new Split feature handles shared expenses inside the app itself, so you can stop juggling Splitwise, screenshots and mental arithmetic after every meal.
The clever bit is that you don't have to type anything in. Tap any card transaction in the app, pick who you're splitting with, and the amount pulls straight through from what you were actually charged. That cuts out the classic errors: mistyped numbers, lost receipts, or squinting at a blurry photo of the bill. It's free to use, and it works for the usual group-trip expenses — overseas meals, attraction tickets, rides, hotel deposits.
Currency matters too. You can settle in the currency you were charged in, or in Singapore dollars, across supported wallet currencies including JPY, THB, MYR, USD, EUR, GBP, HKD, AUD, NZD, CHF and SEK. Anyone who's done a multi-city trip knows that juggling a split across baht, yen and euros is where things usually fall apart.
For repeat travellers with the same crew, you can set up a Group for each trip — one tab for the Bali villa, another for a Johor Bahru weekend — keeping all shared spending in one place instead of buried in a chat thread. Non-card expenses can be added too: if a friend paid cash for a taxi or put dinner on another bank's card, it still gets logged in the same group, just entered in SGD.
The mechanics are simple. Tap Split, create a group split, choose your people, then select the transactions. You can divide costs equally or customise by exact amount, percentage or shares — handy when one person only had drinks while everyone else ordered mains. Then pick your settlement currency, review, and slide to request.
There's also a launch promo running from 17 September to 14 October 2026. Groups that qualify can win a full trip refund — YouTrip reimburses eligible trip expenses up to $5,000 per group. To enter, join via the promo banner in the app and create a Group Split with at least three people total; bigger groups earn more entries. Three winning groups will be drawn at the end.
Why it matters: anyone who travels with friends, partners or family knows the awkward post-trip admin is real. If you already use YouTrip for spending abroad — which plenty of Singapore travellers do for its fee-free overseas card payments — the split and settle step now lives where the spending happens. It's aimed squarely at group holidays, couple trips and family getaways, and it removes the last excuse for the friend who's always slow to pay you back. If you've got a group trip on the calendar before mid-October 2026, the refund promo is a decent nudge to try it.
