Travellers passing through Charlotte Douglas International Airport with Admirals Club access can now breathe a little easier: American Airlines has quietly scrapped the strict "one item per guest" rule at its Provisions lounge near gate A1. The grab-and-go concept, which opened last year, had been limiting guests to a single food item — a sandwich or a charcuterie box, not both. Writer Gary Leff, who flagged the restriction earlier this spring, reports that staff now hand over whatever you ask for, and even proactively offered him extra yogurt and fruit on a recent visit.
Provisions by Admirals Club is designed for travellers who don't have time for a sit-down lounge visit. It sits on concourse A beside gate A1, with agents on hand to help with travel questions, and access follows standard Admirals Club rules — including via premium co-branded credit cards. The light-touch format apparently works: with staff distributing items from behind the fridge, there's enough natural social pressure to keep people from loading up, no posted limit required.
The current all-day menu covers a decent spread: a honey turkey and Swiss ficelle with tortellini salad, a charcuterie snack box with pepperoni, gouda, cheddar, maple toffee walnuts, Kalamata olives, crackers and grapes, a vegan BBQ ranch bowl with brown rice, black beans and corn, and a loaded chef salad with grilled chicken, ham, egg and Swiss. Packaged snacks are available too.
Bigger things are coming for the Provisions concept. A purpose-built 3,700-square-foot location is planned for New York JFK, with hot and cold food and barista-made Lavazza coffee — a step up from the makeshift Charlotte setup. A Dallas–Fort Worth location at the new terminal F has also been announced.
Why does this matter? Because small lounge policies are exactly the kind of thing that decides whether a premium credit card feels worth the annual fee. Being told you can only take one snack doesn't scream "membership perks." The reversal suggests American is listening to feedback, which is encouraging for anyone whose airport routine leans on Admirals Club access. If you're connecting through Charlotte — one of American's busiest hubs — the Provisions counter is now a genuinely useful stop between gates rather than a exercise in rationing.
