The Business Platinum Card from American Express currently carries one of the steepest annual fees around at $895, plus $400 per authorized user. What keeps it relevant is the sheer stack of perks on the other side of the ledger — and right now, a welcome offer worth taking seriously.

The headline bonus is up to 300,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $20,000 in the first three months. Valued at roughly 1.7 cents apiece, that's around $5,100 in potential value — but note the "once in a lifetime" rule: you won't get the bonus if you've ever held this card before. On the plus side, approval doesn't count toward Chase's 5/24 limit, and this hybrid charge card doesn't eat into Amex's five-credit-card cap.

The credits are where the card earns its keep, with over $2,000 potentially available annually: up to $600 back on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection bookings, $360 for Indeed, $300 for ChatGPT, $250 for Adobe, $219 for CLEAR+, $200 each for Hilton and airline fees, and Dell credits totalling $270. They're coupon-style — you need to enrol and actually use each one — but even a handful can wipe out the fee.

For travellers, the perks that matter most are lounge access (Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, Plaza Premium and Priority Pass), complimentary elite status with several hotel groups and rental car companies, and no foreign transaction fees. Points earning is where it's weakest: 5x on flights and prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel, 2x on select business categories (and any purchase over $5,000, up to $2 million per year), and a mediocre 1x on everything else.

The redemption sweet spot is the 35% Pay with Points rebate on flights booked through Amex Travel with a chosen qualifying airline — up to a million points back per year. A $1,000 ticket effectively costs 65,000 points, about 1.54 cents each. Transferring points to one of 18 airline or four hotel partners for business and first class redemptions is the other high-value play.

Who should skip it? Anyone who can't hit the $20,000 spend, won't use the credits, or would rather carry a card with stronger everyday earn rates — plenty of Amex alternatives offer 1.5x to 2x on general spending. This one suits established businesses with real travel budgets, especially those flying often enough for lounge access to feel like a necessity rather than a novelty.
