November in Calgary is busier than the cold might suggest. The month stacks up a mix of big-name concerts, holiday market season kick-offs, a football festival and a citywide noodle crawl — here's what's on and what it costs.

The Smashing Pumpkins open the month at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Nov. 3, playing a set built around their 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness as part of the Rats In A Cage tour. Tickets start at about $232.

Holiday season arrives early this year. The Millarville Christmas Market, south of the city, runs over two long weekends (Nov. 5–8 and 12–15) with more than 300 vendors, food trucks, Santa photos and family activities — $8 for adults, free for kids under 12. At cSPACE Marda Loop, Supermarché de l'Art on Nov. 7 offers free entry and over 1,500 affordable local artworks priced between $30 and $300. If you want to go full festive, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge hosts Christmas in November from Nov. 6–15, a pricier mountain getaway with chef-led dinners and workshops starting at $229 for a lunch experience and $2,151 for a three-night package.

Food and science get their own spotlights. The YYC Noodle Festival (Nov. 5–15) has restaurants across the city serving featured dishes from ramen to vermicelli, with diners voting for a winner. Beakerhead's Petri Dish takes over TELUS Spark Science Centre Nov. 7–8 with hands-on experiments, medieval combat, a digital rave and a fire-versus-ice showdown — Saturday is free, other days run $10–$39.

Stampede Park turns football-themed for Grey Cup week, Nov. 11–15, with nightly drone shows, live music, a free pancake breakfast and family activities ahead of the big game. Then the Calgary Zoo's ZOOLIGHTS marks its 30th anniversary from Nov. 13 through early January, with over a million lights, life-size gingerbread houses, a glowing bamboo trail and carousel rides on select evenings from 5:30 p.m.

Finally, two interactive evenings on Nov. 20: The Jury Experience at The GRAND ($54 and up) puts you in the jury box of a fictional criminal trial, while the Calgary Central Library's Locked Library ($30) is a puzzle-solving mystery hunt through the building. Whichever way you lean — music, markets, football or a courtroom drama — Calgary's November calendar has something to anchor a weekend around.
