Dubai already looks like a video game, so a playable version of it was arguably inevitable. On 11 November 2026, an experience called 'Dubai Developed in Fortnite 2033' goes live inside Fortnite, one of the world's biggest games, letting players roam a virtual model of the city.
The map pulls in a mix of the expected and the surprising: Al Fahidi Fort in old Dubai, Almas Tower and Uptown Dubai on the modern side, plus Kite Beach, Dubai Harbour, Skydive Dubai, Deep Dive Dubai and the American University in Dubai. It was built by studio Wild Unlimited in partnership with the DMCC Gaming Centre — Dubai's gaming industry arm — so it's as much a city marketing project as a game.
Unlike standard Fortnite Battle Royale, don't expect shooting sprees. The Dubai experience is built around exploration, competitive challenges and team-based objectives, though exact missions are still under wraps. Wild Unlimited founder and CEO Sam Shami framed it as an extension of Dubai's habit of turning big ideas into reality, now on one of the most influential gaming platforms on the planet.
There's a real-world layer too, and this is where it gets interesting for anyone actually in Dubai right now. Ahead of launch, an augmented reality 'Dubai Drop' challenge runs across the city: you scan QR codes placed around town, hunt physical locations for Loot Boxes, and collect prizes redeemable at Wild Game Fest, held at SALT on Kite Beach on launch day, 11 November.
Why should travellers care? A city officially recreating itself inside a major game is a new kind of tourism hook — a free way to scout Dubai's neighbourhoods from your sofa before you book. If you're visiting Dubai in November 2026, the AR hunt and the Wild Game Fest beach event are genuinely fun things to do, and the launch puts a spotlight on spots worth seeing in person anyway: Al Fahidi's historic lanes, the water off Kite Beach, Dubai Harbour's marina. Dubai Tourism's gaming push also hints at more city-meets-game experiences to come.
