The Calgary Stampede has its first big music announcement for 2027, and it's a heavyweight one: Grammy-winning rock band Greta Van Fleet will play the Scotiabank Saddledome on July 8, 2027, at 7 p.m. The show is part of the Stampede Concert Series presented by Uber Eats and lands the day before the festival itself kicks off, which runs July 9 to 18, 2027.
The Michigan band, formed in Frankenmuth by brothers Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka plus drummer Danny Wagner, broke out with "Highway Tune," which spent four weeks at number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart. They picked up the Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2019 for From the Fires and have shifted more than 3.5 million records worldwide. This stop is part of their Into The Beginning tour.
They won't be alone on the bill. Portugal. The Man, best known for the 2017 chart smash "Feel It Still," which peaked at number four on the Hot 100 and won them a Grammy, will co-headline the evening. Opening duties go to Sun Room, the California band behind "Carry on" and "Cadillac."
Ticket timing matters here. Calgary Stampede Insiders get first crack on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 10 a.m. MT, with the general public following on Thursday, October 15 at 10 a.m. MT, both via Ticketmaster. Prices haven't been announced yet. One nice bonus: a concert ticket also includes same-day admission to the Stampede grounds, so you can spend July 8 wandering the park before heading into the arena.
For travellers, this is a solid reason to build a Calgary trip around the Stampede's opening days. The festival is a genuine spectacle: a ten-day rodeo and exhibition that takes over the city every July, with chuckwagon races, midway food of questionable nutritional merit, and a downtown that fully leans into cowboy mode. Catching a major arena concert the night before opening day means you get the build-up and the first day of the grounds without fighting the biggest crowds. More headliners are expected to be announced as 2027 approaches, so it may be worth waiting to see the full concert calendar before locking in dates.
