Kyrgyzstan is making a push to get more international flights into the country. Airports of Kyrgyzstan OJSC, together with the young national carrier Asman Airlines, attended Routes World 2026 in Frankfurt from October 21 to 23 — one of the aviation industry's biggest route-development gatherings.
The event drew aviation representatives from more than 120 countries and hosted over 10,000 business meetings, all aimed at launching new routes and expanding international air services. The Kyrgyz delegation used the forum to meet airline and airport partners about adding destinations and growing its flight network. Airports of Kyrgyzstan went a step further by sponsoring the forum's second day, which commercial director Aman Mamaev said helped put the country's aviation potential in front of the global industry.
Timing matters here. The push comes shortly after Kyrgyzstan was removed from the European Union's aviation safety blacklist — a list of airlines and states barred from operating in EU airspace over safety concerns. Being off the blacklist removes a major barrier: European carriers can look at the market, codeshares become easier to broker, and Kyrgyz carriers have a credible path toward flying to Europe. For a country that markets itself on Silk Road history, alpine lakes and trekking, better air links have long been the missing piece.
So what does this mean if you're actually planning a trip? Expect the route map to slowly widen. Right now most visitors arrive via Istanbul, Dubai, Delhi or through Central Asian hubs like Almaty and Tashkent, flying into Bishkek's Manas International Airport or Osh in the south. If the talks in Frankfurt bear fruit, direct or one-stop options from more European cities could follow over the next couple of years, shaving time and cost off a trip to Issyk-Kul, the Tian Shan mountains or the country's famously cheap horse-trekking and yurt stays.
It's early days — a trade forum produces meetings and intentions, not timetables. But for travellers who like getting somewhere before the crowds, Kyrgyzstan is one to watch: visa-free or easy e-visa access for many nationalities, low prices, and an aviation sector actively lobbying to connect itself to the rest of the world.
