Award season has been kind to the Maldives. Heritance Aarah, in Raa Atoll, took Gold in the Leading All-Inclusive Hotel/Resort category at the South Asian Travel Awards, held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé on 8 October 2026 for its tenth edition. The win centres on its Premium All-Inclusive concept, which leans heavily on food: seven restaurants and five bars, including Ambula (a Sri Lankan–Maldivian mash-up menu), Fehi Raha (a garden-to-table concept using produce grown in the resort's own organic garden) and Ralu Lounge, home to one of the country's biggest rum collections. There's even an ice cream truck, Ufa Ghadhiya, aimed at families. Beyond the plate, guests get snorkelling and diving in Raa Atoll, treatments at the IASO Medi Spa, cultural programming at the resort's Maldivian Village, and an adults-only Ocean Suite Wing with overwater villas and butler service for couples wanting extra privacy.

The Cinnamon brand also had a strong night at SATA. Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, in North Malé Atoll, won Gold as Leading Surf Resort for the eighth time — its fourth year in a row — thanks in no small part to the Pasta Point surf break, a well-known draw for travelling surfers. Sister property Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives held onto Gold in the Leading Beach Resort category for a second straight year and added Silver for its CSR programme.

The luxury end of the market picked up international honours too. The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands was upgraded to Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 MICHELIN Key awards, having held just one the previous year — a signal it now sits among the world's most exceptional hotels. The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort made Tatler's Best 100 Hotels in Asia Pacific 2026, announced 22 October, and both Marriott properties ranked in the top five of Condé Nast Traveler's US Readers' Choice resorts for the Indian Ocean. The Maldives itself topped the Best Islands in Africa & the Indian Ocean lists in both the US and UK editions.

Raa Atoll claimed another winner as well: Alila Kothaifaru Maldives was named Best Resort of the Year at the AHA Asia Hotel Awards, held at Capella Bangkok. It's a compact property — 41 beachfront villas, 36 overwater villas, three two-bedroom beach villas and the larger Boduge Residence, every one with a private pool. Highlights include guided house reef snorkelling with marine experts and private dining on The Shack, a secluded sand cay. The award adds to a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice nod earlier in 2026.

Why does this matter if you're planning a trip? Awards are a useful shortcut when every Maldivian resort promises paradise. If all-inclusive value is the goal, Heritance Aarah's winning formula suggests dining breadth matters as much as the villa. Surfers have a clear pick in Dhonveli, while design-focused couples and honeymooners can shortlist the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis or Alila with reasonable confidence that industry judges and travellers agree they deliver.
