Airports in the Caribbean tend to offer the same handful of options: check-in, security, duty-free, a restaurant, maybe a lounge. Puerto Plata's Gregorio Luperón International Airport just added something new to the mix — a full wellness center right inside the terminal.
The Green Garden Wellness Lounge, led by Dr. Raysa Perrone, is being billed as the first dedicated airport wellness center in the Caribbean. It offers massages, compression boots and other recovery and relaxation therapies, and it's open to arriving and departing passengers alike. So whether you've just landed on the north coast stiff from a long-haul flight, or you want to unwind before boarding home, you can book a session without leaving the building.
The center is part of a wider push by airport operator AERODOM and VINCI Airports to upgrade the passenger experience at Puerto Plata. Carlos Rodolí, AERODOM's director of northern airports, says the goal is to add options beyond the usual retail-and-food formula. For Green Garden, it's a chance to extend a spa-style brand into a setting with a steady stream of international travelers — and it fits neatly with the Dominican Republic's broader wellness tourism boom, where resorts have been stacking on wellness rooms and programming for years.
The timing makes sense. Puerto Plata is having a moment: Copa Airlines launched new Panama–Puerto Plata service earlier this year, plugging the north coast into Copa's network across the Americas, and Canadian traffic is up 13 percent in 2026 compared with the year before, prompting airlines to add winter seats. New hotel projects are underway alongside the established all-inclusive corridor, and nearby Cabarete and Sosúa keep drawing their own crowds.
Why should a traveller care? Practical reasons, mostly. A pre-flight massage can take the edge off a long travel day, and compression therapy after a long haul is a genuinely useful recovery tool — not just a gimmick. It's also a sign Puerto Plata is maturing as a destination: better flight connections, new investment and now airport amenities you'd normally associate with bigger hubs. If you're flying in or out of the north coast this winter, it's worth factoring an extra half hour into your airport plans.
