Southampton's summer cruise season is drawing to a close for one of its biggest regulars. The MSC Virtuosa, which began its UK-based deployment back in May, has just finished its last long itinerary — a 12-night run to the Canary Islands — and is now working through a short programme of four- to seven-night sailings before leaving British waters for good this winter.

There are four departures left through the end of the month, ticking off ports in Ireland, Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain. If you've been eyeing a quick northern Europe break without a flight, these short round-trips from Southampton are the last chance this side of 2027.

The real spectacle, though, is the exit. On 7 November 2026 the ship sails from Southampton on a 25-night trans-Atlantic repositioning cruise, calling in the Mediterranean, the Canaries and Brazil before finishing in Santos. Repositioning sailings like this often undercut per-night costs compared with standard itineraries, and this one essentially stitches three very different regions into a single trip.

Once in South America, the Virtuosa shifts to winter cruising in Brazil, operating from Santos, Salvador and Maceió — a handy option for anyone chasing summer sunshine in the southern hemisphere. She'll head back to Europe in 2027 for a Western Mediterranean summer covering Spain, France, Italy and Tunisia, then repeat the pattern: back to Brazil for a second southern winter, and another Med season planned for 2028.

Some ship facts worth knowing: the Virtuosa is the fourth vessel in MSC's Meraviglia class, a 177,100-ton, 4,888-passenger ship built at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique yard in St Nazaire. She entered service in May 2021 and, fittingly, spent her debut season sailing from the UK. Southampton fans aren't being abandoned, either — MSC Preziosa is lined up there for the 2026-27 winter, and the MSC Meraviglia makes her first-ever UK season from Southampton on 18 May 2027.

For UK cruisers, the takeaway is simple: the fly-free, drive-to-the-port model stays alive in Southampton through MSC's other ships, while anyone tempted by a bucket-list ocean crossing or a Brazilian summer should look at the November sailings before they fill.
