Travellers hopping between Split and the island of Brač will soon have a fresh option beyond the busy Supetar ferry. A new state-subsidised fast boat route will connect Split with the island's eastern side from Sunday, 1 November 2026, run by Krilo – Kapetan Luka aboard the Krilo Tropic, a 2022-built fast catamaran carrying up to 332 passengers at nearly 30 knots.
The route links Split, Omiš, Postira and Pučišća in both directions, and it runs all year, not just in summer. The Croatian Government is putting €1.505 million a year into the service, which is timed mainly around islanders' daily lives: weekday boats leave Pučišća at 6:15 am (via Postira) and reach Split by 7:20 am, with the return legs departing at 4:30 pm. Saturdays add an Omiš stop, making the Split–Omiš leg roughly 35 minutes. On Sundays and holidays there's a single afternoon rotation.
For visitors, the practical upshot is straightforward. Until now, most travellers to Brač funnelled through the Supetar ferry from Split, which jams up badly in July and August. The new line gives direct access to Pučišća — the handsome stone-carving village on the island's north coast — and Postira, skipping the drive across the island entirely. Fares are modest too: about €7.50 on the longest stretch in summer, cheaper off-season, with discounts for residents and eligible groups.
There may be more to come. Omiš stops could increase during the tourist season, officials are weighing an extension to Povlja before the next summer, and a separate coastal passenger link connecting Trogir, Split and Omiš is in the works. If it all lands, the central Dalmatian coast becomes noticeably easier to stitch together by sea without a car.
Who should care? Independent travellers heading to quieter parts of Brač, anyone basing themselves in Omiš and wanting a fast day trip to Split, and summer visitors looking to dodge the Supetar ferry queues. Just note the timetable is built for commuters: morning sailings towards Split and a single late-afternoon return, so day trips work best on the周六-style Saturday schedule or with an overnight stay.
