Toronto's boutique fitness scene is getting a big new player. Sweat and Tonic, the upscale gym-and-wellness brand already drawing crowds near the Eaton Centre and at The Well, opens its third location at 11 Yorkville Ave on Saturday, Nov. 21 — right in the middle of one of the city's priciest, most polished neighbourhoods.
The new spot is sizable: 18,000 square feet at the base of the 11 YV development, running around 300 classes a week across four studios. There's an immersive ride studio, a hot yoga and Pilates room, a strength studio with 48 spots arranged into 12 workout pods (complete with a raised instructor podium and built-in screens), and Reformd, the brand's Lagree-method studio.
What sets the Yorkville branch apart is recovery. Both change rooms get complimentary access to custom-built saunas that combine infrared and electric high heat, plus cold plunge tubs — no add-on fees. That combo is increasingly what people look for in a serious training session, and it's rare to find it included in a standard membership.
The social side carries over from the other locations too. Tonic House works as a members' lounge, co-working space, event venue and cocktail bar rolled into one, while the Tonic Bar downstairs serves smoothies and snacks with a view of neighbourhood landmarks like the Yorkville Fire Hall and the Four Seasons Hotel.
Pricing: a limited run of pre-opening unlimited memberships costs $260 per month (the regular rate is $280). That covers unlimited yoga, Pilates, strength and ride classes, four all-location class credits a month, and access to the pool deck at Tonic Spa at The Well.
For travellers, this fits neatly into a growing habit: keeping training routines alive on the road. Yorkville is a hotel-heavy district, so visitors staying in the area can drop in for a class, then use the saunas and cold plunges before wandering out to the boutiques and museums on their doorstep. If you're in Toronto for a long weekend and don't want to lose a week of workouts, this is now one of the better-equipped options in the downtown core.
