Hong Kong-based Portier Hotels has launched its new boutique lifestyle brand, The Arc House, and the first property is now open in Canggu, Bali. Two more addresses are on the way: Hong Kong's Central district later this year and Melbourne in early 2027.

The debut hotel sits close to Batu Bolong Beach, one of Canggu's most popular stretches of sand, and leans into the neighbourhood's mix of surf culture, contemporary dining, independent shops and wellness studios. Rather than a resort sealed off from its surroundings, it's positioned as a base for dipping in and out of the area's restaurants, cafes and beach afternoons.

The design approach is minimalist but local: arches act as the brand's architectural signature, paired with clean interiors, tactile materials and commissioned artwork sourced in Bali. The property contains 19 private-pool suite villas, so every room category comes with its own plunge pool — a rare setup at this scale. Shared spaces include a rooftop infinity pool with sunset views and an Indo-Japanese restaurant called MYKAZA, which blends Japanese technique with Balinese ingredients and is open to locals as well as guests. Villa breakfast delivery and wellness programming round out the offer.

Co-founder Karen Choi describes the intent as hotels that feel part of one collection without ever feeling repeated — each property shaped by its building and neighbourhood. The Hong Kong outpost, at 148 Wellington Street in Central, will be a 24-room property with a lounge, rooftop terrace and gym, plus a Cantonese restaurant named One Forty Eight Wellington. Melbourne's planned 43-room hotel completes the initial trio.

Why it matters: Canggu has no shortage of villas and boutique stays, so a new branded collection with private-pool suites and a rooftop pool adds a polished mid-to-upscale option for travellers who want design and location without a big-resort feel. For those tracking new openings across Asia-Pacific, the expansion into Central Hong Kong will be the one to watch — that district rarely gains small, design-led properties.

Portier Hotels itself is young — founded in 2023 and headquartered in Hong Kong — and runs a second brand, je ne sais quoi, alongside The Arc House. The group's stated focus is delivering a strong sense of place rather than a uniform experience across destinations, which, if it holds up in practice, would put The Arc House in similar territory to lifestyle groups like Aman's smaller siblings or Ennismore's neighbourhood brands.
