There's a new Amex Offers deal doing the rounds, and this one is aimed squarely at holders of the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card. Eligible cardmembers can earn a $200 statement credit when they spend $900 or more on airfare — a return of well over 20% on a qualifying purchase, which is unusually generous for this kind of promotion.
The mechanics are simple. You register the offer to your card, then spend $900 or more on flights across one or more transactions by February 28, 2027. There's no need to hit the threshold in a single purchase, which helps if you're piecing together a couple of bookings. Flights must be booked directly with airlines — third-party sites and online agencies don't count — but any carrier qualifies, so US and international airlines both work.
As always with Amex Offers, it's officially targeted, but reports suggest this one has gone out to a wide slice of Brilliant cardholders rather than a lucky few. Worth checking your account before you book anything big.
Stacking it with the card's usual earn rate makes the numbers look even better. The Brilliant earns 3x Bonvoy points per dollar on airfare, which at a rough valuation of 0.7 cents per point adds another couple of percent. On a $900 ticket, that's the $200 credit plus roughly $19 in points — a total return north of 24%.
One clever angle if you don't have a trip on the horizon: most major US airlines will convert a cancelled (non-basic-economy) ticket into travel credit. So you could buy a $900 refundable-ish fare, claim the $200 credit, then cancel and bank roughly $900 in airline credit for an out-of-pocket cost of about $700. The catch is that airline credits usually come with expiration dates, so only do this if you're confident you'll fly that carrier within the window.
The Brilliant card carries a steep annual fee, so this deal won't justify getting the card on its own for most people. But if you already have it, registering and timing a flight purchase against the offer is about as easy as savings get. Even travellers with an existing trip planned before the deadline can rebook or buy directly with the airline to trigger the credit.
If you hold the card, open your Amex Offers tab and check now — these promotions can disappear, and registration is required before the spending counts.
