André Rieu, the Dutch violinist and conductor known globally as the Waltz King, is heading back to the UAE. He'll play Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on April 17, 2027, fronting his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra for one night only.
If you've never seen Rieu live, the format is less stiff classical recital, more full-blown spectacle. Expect signature waltzes alongside opera highlights, film scores and musical numbers, all delivered with the showmanship that's sold him more than 40 million albums worldwide — one of the best-selling classical artists ever. His concerts famously draw crowds who range from lifelong classical fans to people who just want an entertaining big night out.
Tickets: you can register now for pre-sale access, with tickets going live on October 29 ahead of general sale.
Rieu isn't the only big name on the arena's 2027 slate. Italian minimalist composer Ludovico Einaudi performs on January 24, 2027, backed by the UAE National Orchestra, with tickets from Dhs195 via livenation.me. Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges lands on January 9 as part of the Abu Dhabi Comedy Season, with his Here if You Need Me tour priced from Dhs295 through Platinum List, the arena's site and TicketMaster. And musical theatre fans get a proper treat: The Phantom of the Opera runs from March 10 to 28, 2027 — its Abu Dhabi debut, though the show previously played Dubai Opera back in October 2019. Weekday shows (Sunday and Thursday) cost Dhs240, rising to Dhs290 on Fridays and Saturdays.
For travellers, this makes Abu Dhabi a genuinely appealing winter-and-spring city break for 2027. Yas Island packs the arena alongside theme parks, hotels and the waterfront promenade, so you can build a trip around a show without needing a car. The concert dates also fall in peak pleasant-season weather — January through April is when the UAE is actually enjoyable to walk around, with daytime temperatures in the mid-20s rather than the brutal summer heat.
A smart play would be to time a visit to one show and pad the trip with the rest of the capital: the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the mangroves are all an easy drive from Yas Island, and Dubai is under 90 minutes away if you want two cities for the price of one.
If classical-with-a-crowd-pleasing-twist is your thing, the Rieu date is the headline grabber, but honestly the whole first quarter of 2027 reads like a well-curated festival — piano, comedy and Phantom within ten weeks of each other.
