Cooler evenings in the UAE mean one thing: the desert cafes are reopening. These aren't humble kiosks in the sand — Dubai's winter cafe scene blends specialty coffee with camel rides, fire shows, dune buggies and some seriously photogenic setups. Here's where to plan an evening as the temperatures drop.

Al Marmoom is the beating heart of it all. Hidden Cafe is the crowd-pleaser: golden dunes, a campfire atmosphere, camel rides, buggies and evening entertainment, open Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 1am (until 2am on weekends). Pets are welcome. Also at Al Marmoom is Sadeem, an all-blue, glittering setup that has earned the royal seal of approval from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum two years running — trained horses and fire shows are part of the package. Reopening dates for both are still to be confirmed.

If you want something now, One Degree Cafe inside Mushrif National Park is already open daily from 5pm to midnight, with palm-fringed dune backdrops made for photos. Out in Margham, 8th Cafe leans into coffee, cars and community — there's a play area, archery, a shooting range, even a floral kiosk for picking up a bouquet on the way in. It's running Halloween decor this season and opens 3pm to midnight on weekdays, later at weekends.

For a quieter take, Limited overlooks Al Qudra lake, where you might spot pink flamingos paddling past while you sip. And if you fancy crossing an emirate line, Not A Space sits in Sharjah's Al Faya desert, about an hour's drive from Dubai — artsy corners, beanbags and picnic tables set against the rugged Al Faya mountains rather than rolling dunes. Meanwhile, The Uncommon, with its mirrored exterior reflecting the sunset, is due back this winter.

Why it matters: these cafes are an affordable, easy way to experience the desert without committing to a full safari or an overnight camp. Most charge little more than a coffee and offer their own entertainment, making them ideal for date nights, family evenings or a group outing as the season kicks off. Just note that several reopening dates are still under wraps, so it's worth following the venues on Instagram before making the drive out.
