If you were hoping to fly a European carrier to Dubai this winter, your options just got narrower. At least 16 non-Gulf airlines are still skipping the city, and several of the biggest names won't return until the end of March.
The latest news came in late October. KLM announced on 26 October that it would not serve Dubai at all during the 2026/27 winter season, which runs through to 27 March. A few days earlier, on 23 October, Lufthansa Group pushed its Dubai return back to 25 November — the latest in a series of delays stretching back to March. They now join Finnair, United, Air Canada and budget carrier Wizz Air, all of which are staying away until spring.
Why does this matter beyond route maps? Because it strips out a chunk of the long-haul capacity that Dubai's hotels were banking on for peak season. Some hotel operators had told Skift they expected European airlines to resume with the winter schedules in late October, and said that prospect was already boosting December bookings. Forward data, though, was pointing the other way: as of 30 September, booked nights at Dubai short-term rentals were running more cautiously than operators would like.
The practical upshot for travellers is a thinner choice of direct routes into Dubai this winter, particularly from northern Europe. Emirates and other Gulf carriers still fly the route heavily, so Dubai itself isn't hard to reach — but if you specifically wanted KLM out of Amsterdam, Lufthansa out of Germany, or a Wizz Air low-cost fare, you may be rerouting or waiting until late November at the earliest. Fewer seats in the market can also nudge fares upward around the busy December and New Year window, so booking early with an alternative carrier is a sensible move. And with hotel forward bookings looking soft, there may be value to be found on the accommodation side even as flights tighten up.
It's worth keeping an eye on announcements through November: Lufthansa has already shifted its return date several times, and more changes wouldn't be surprising. Skift — Hotels
