Bangkok diners with a soft spot for pasta and espresso have a month-long reason to eat out. The Embassy of Italy has launched the Taste Of Italy Passport programme, running across the Thai capital for all of November, timed to the Week Of Italian Cuisine In The World (Nov 16-20).
The idea is simple and honestly quite fun. Twenty-nine Italian restaurants that have partnered with the embassy on past initiatives each put forward special dishes or menus for the event. Diners download the passport from the embassy's website, or grab a physical copy at any participating restaurant, then collect a stamp each time they order a featured dish or menu.
More stamps, better rewards. Prizes total 250 and are split into seven value tiers, ranging from dining discounts to complimentary hotel stays. Once you hit a stamp threshold, you take your passport to the Italian embassy and pick a prize from the category you've unlocked. So a casual carbonara here and a tiramisu there could genuinely turn into a free night's stay.
For anyone who already treats Bangkok's Italian dining scene seriously — and it's a strong one, from family-run trattorias to high-end imports — the passport works as both a checklist and an excuse to try somewhere new. The full list of participating restaurants and prize details is available via the embassy's site at bit.ly/3UHAhSp.
Why bother? Beyond the prizes, the programme is a curated shortlist: 29 venues already vetted through previous embassy collaborations, each offering something exclusive during November. If you're visiting Bangkok this month or live there and want a food crawl with a goal, it's a low-cost way to structure one. Just remember to ask for the stamp — and hold onto that passport until you've cashed in at the embassy.
