If you are in Bishkek in late October, do not count on driving through the city centre. From 21 to 25 October, several streets around Turdakun Usubaliev Old Square will be off-limits to regular traffic while Kyrgyzstan hosts the AgroTechExpo 2026 and Altyn Kuz agricultural exhibitions and fairs.

The closures, announced by the Patrol Police Service Department, cover Razzakov Street and Orozbekov Street between Chui Avenue and Frunze Street, Old Square itself from Erkindik Boulevard to Panfilov Street, and the area around the Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater. Police say the restrictions exist to keep event participants and visitors safe, and drivers are being told to plan alternative routes in advance.

For fair-goers there is a dedicated parking zone near the Bishkek branch of the State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy and Cartography, by the former Ministry of Foreign Affairs building. The events themselves are a showcase for Kyrgyz farmers and domestic manufacturers, with agricultural machinery, new farming technology and local produce on display — a genuinely popular fixture in the Kyrgyz calendar rather than a trade-only affair.

For travellers the practical takeaway is simple: the affected blocks sit right in the heart of Bishkek, close to Ala-Too Square and the main museum district, so anyone staying in a central hotel or relying on taxis between 21 and 25 October should expect detours, slower journeys and fewer drop-off points. Walking is often the fastest way to cover this part of the city anyway — most of the closures are within a 15-minute stroll of each other. On the upside, if you find yourself near Old Square during the fairs, they are a low-cost way to sample local food producers and see a slice of everyday Kyrgyz life that most itineraries miss.
