Guam's nightlife calendar gets a jolt on October 16, when Hard Candy: A Well "Lei'd" Male Revue lands at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa with two performances and an afterparty to round off the night. Think less rowdy strip show, more polished theatrical production — ensemble choreography, solo showcases, staging and a dose of audience participation, fronted by professional dancers from Hawai'i and beyond.

The production is the work of Under the Wig Productions founder Travis Duenas, a Guam native now based in Hawai'i, working with Hit Radio 100 and Trident Entertainment Hawai'i. For Duenas, bringing a professionally staged revue back to his home island is a personal project, and he's put local talent on the bill too, adding a Guam-based choreographer and dancer to the cast.

The performers come from serious training grounds — musical theatre, ballet, jazz and hip-hop — and it shows in how they talk about the work. Cast member Richard Green namechecks Bob Fosse as an influence; others, including Daddy Dorian and Ryder, describe group numbers built collaboratively so each dancer's own style and personality comes through. While the show borrows some inspiration from the Magic Mike playbook, organisers are clear it's a theatre-style entertainment experience rather than a conventional strip act.

Hosting duties go to Fantasia Royale Gaga, a drag performer with more than two decades on stage, a win on Season 1 of OUTtv's Hot Haus and a run on Season 5 of The Boulet Brothers' Dragula. Her remit for the evening: introductions, humour and coaxing the crowd into the fun at whatever level they're comfortable with. That reassurance matters — the organisers say they're expecting couples and friend groups as much as seasoned revue-goers, and the cast stresses comfort and safety for anyone who feels a bit shy about the interactive bits.

There's context here beyond one night out. Duenas pointed to a February production on the island that drew a strong response as proof Guam audiences want more variety in live entertainment than the usual bar-and-karaoke circuit. If October sells well, expect more touring-style productions to slot Guam into their itineraries.

Practically, the evening is split into two shows in the Hilton's Micronesian Ballroom: Unzipped at 6 p.m. and Stripped at 8:30 p.m., with the same cast and core production in each — so pick the time that suits, or make a proper night of it at the official afterparty at the resort's Tree Bar. Tickets and details are at utwproductions.com.

For travellers, this is a handy excuse to plan a Guam trip around something beyond the beach. The show is a natural fit for a couples' getaway, a hens' night or a friends' trip looking for one memorable evening, and pairing it with a stay at or near the Hilton in Tumon puts you right in the middle of the island's hotel strip. Book ahead if you want the earlier show and a dinner slot afterwards — or the later show and a short stagger to the afterparty.
