Krabi has picked up a new mid-range option right in the thick of the action: Fairfield by Marriott Krabi Ao Nang Beach, the first Fairfield-branded property in Thailand.

The hotel sits in Ao Nang, arguably the most convenient base in Krabi province. Shops, restaurants and bars are within easy reach on foot, and the boat departure points for two of the region's biggest draws — Railay Bay and the Phi Phi Islands — are close by. Krabi International Airport is roughly 27km away, so transfers are straightforward after a flight.

There are 218 rooms and suites spread over six categories, from Garden View to Pool View and Pool Access, with sizes running from a compact 24 square metres up to a generous 48. The design brief leans practical rather than flashy: floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, proper workspaces and comfortable beds. If you plan to mix a few remote-work days into a beach trip, that layout should suit.

On the facilities front, there are two swimming pools — one fitted with a water slide, which will earn points with families. A 24-hour fitness centre covers early-bird gym sessions, and food and drink comes from three venues: Breeze Café & Bistro for all-day Thai and international dishes, Style Bar for sunset cocktails, and S Bar for poolside snacks and drinks.

Why it matters: Fairfield is Marriott's budget-to-midscale brand, and its arrival in Thailand signals that the country's beach destinations are being taken seriously by mainstream international chains, not just luxury operators. For travellers, that usually means dependable standards, loyalty points if you collect them, and pricing that undercuts the five-star resorts along the same stretch of coast. Ao Nang already has plenty of guesthouses and villas, but a 218-room international hotel adds a reliable middle option — handy for families, longer stays, or anyone who wants a pool and a predictable breakfast before hopping on a longtail boat to Railay or a ferry to the Phi Phi islands.
