A big-name hotel debut is taking shape on Barbados' northwest coast. Pendry Hotels & Resorts, the luxury brand under Montage International, is building its first Caribbean property near Speightstown, with a 2027 opening targeted. The project repurposes the former Port Ferdinand marina site and adds something that address never had: a full beachfront hotel sitting directly on the sand.

The scale is deliberately intimate. Pendry Barbados will have just 80 oceanfront guestrooms and suites, yet the surrounding facilities read much bigger. Plans include several restaurants, a spa with eight treatment rooms, fitness facilities, a children's club called Paintbox, event space, and 46 private residences ranging from two to five bedrooms, with interiors by RH and some ground-floor homes getting private gardens and infinity pools.

The standout feature is the water in two forms. Alongside the beach, the resort keeps a 110-berth marina, home to Pendry Yacht Club — the first of its kind for the brand. Dockside restaurants and a signature venue will look over the boats, so evenings can alternate between toes-in-sand dinners and meals beside the yachts. Design input comes from Robert Glazier, HKS and Studio Munge, and construction has already hit the topping-off milestone reported in April, so the build is visibly progressing rather than staying on paper.

What makes the location genuinely interesting is Speightstown itself. The historic town — once nicknamed Little Bristol — is minutes away, with waterfront restaurants and small bars worth leaving the resort for. Local & Co, with its restaurant and beach bar, has become a real dining draw, and the town gives this quieter corner of Barbados a proper centre to explore beyond hotel grounds.

Why should travellers care? Barbados already has a deep bench of luxury west coast hotels, so a new arrival needs a hook. This one has several: a brand making its Caribbean debut (Pendry co-founder Michael Fuerstman has called Barbados an exciting next chapter), a rare beach-plus-marina combination, and a walkable town nearby. It suits couples chasing restaurant openings and spa time, families wanting a children's club and suite space, and anyone with an interest in boating. Just note the opening is still projected for 2027 — confirm an actual date before booking flights around it.
