Brazil's newest cruise line will have to wait a few extra days for its debut. Corazul Cruceros, a Spanish startup launching short cruises along the Brazilian coast, has pushed its maiden voyage to October 30, 2026, after the delivery voyage of its ship Buenavista ran long.

The original plan had passengers boarding for a shakedown sailing on October 23, with the official first cruise on October 26. Those sailings were scrapped because the 1,806-passenger ship is still mid-Atlantic. Having left Hong Kong in late September, it stopped in Singapore, Mauritius and South Africa on a month-long repositioning run to its new homeport of Santos. Corazul blamed "adverse sailing conditions and delays in administrative authorizations" for the hold-up, while noting that schedule shifts during intercontinental repositioning are fairly normal. AIS tracking has the Buenavista docking in Santos in the early hours of October 29 — just a day before its rescheduled debut.

The ship itself is a 1995-built veteran previously sailing in China for Astro Ocean Cruises. Corazul's COO Camille Appeldoorn said little heavy work is needed because it was well maintained — the real job is stripping out the China-market fittings and restyling it to Corazul's own brand. That process has been happening in transit: hull cleaning and repainting in Singapore, then crew recruitment and provisioning in Mauritius.

Once underway, the maiden season targets travellers who want short, coastal getaways rather than long-haul itineraries. Three- to seven-night sailings will run from Santos and Rio de Janeiro, hopping along Brazil's South and Southeast coasts to stops such as Balneário Camboriú, Búzios, Ilhabela and Cabo Frio. In January and February 2027, the line adds weeklong cruises to the Northeast, with overnight stays in Salvador — a chance to actually enjoy Brazil's Afro-Brazilian capital after the day-trippers have gone.

Why it matters: this is a new budget-friendly option for Brazilian coastal cruising at a time when demand in South America is growing. If you're eyeing a first sailing, the October 30 departure is now the date to book, and the short itineraries from Santos or Rio pair easily with a city stay either side of the cruise.
