The Maldives is turning the last months of 2026 into a run of one-off culinary events, with big-name chefs landing at resorts across several atolls — and two of the dinners are open to people who aren't even staying overnight.
The headline act is Dharshan Munidasa, the Sri Lankan restaurateur behind Nihonbashi and Ministry of Crab, both regulars on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list. He brings a two-night Ministry of Crab pop-up to B.Heaven Rooftop at Barceló Nasandhura Malé on 13 and 14 November 2026. Expect the signatures — Garlic Chili Crab and hand-crushed Pepper Crab — plus dishes created just for the event, all built on export-quality mud crabs and freshwater prawns flown in fresh (the brand famously refuses to use freezers). The rooftop setting over the ocean in the capital is a rare chance to catch this food outside Colombo.
If your dates fall earlier, Belgian chef Wout Bru takes over two sister resorts from 31 October to 7 November 2026, celebrating Meyyafushi's first anniversary. His Le Grand Verre in France picked up its first Michelin star in 2023, and he'll host two single-evening dinners: a four-course wine-pairing at Meyyafushi's Bubble Underwater Restaurant on 2 November (USD 450 net per person) and a five-course Michelin dinner at Raakani Restaurant on Fushifaru on 5 November (USD 300++ per person). Both welcome outside visitors and guests from nearby islands, subject to availability and advance booking via the resorts' reservations emails.
Kuda Villingili, in North Malé Atoll, has bigger news than a single evening: it's been added to the MICHELIN Guide's 2026 hotel selection. The resort, about 30 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, has 75 villas (36 overwater, all with private pools), eight restaurants, a 150-metre pool and a spot next to Chickens Break, one of the country's known surf breaks. It's also held Green Globe certification three years running — a nod that sustainability and luxury aren't mutually exclusive here.
Rounding things out, Chef JKP — James Knight-Paccheco, a veteran of Michelin-starred kitchens who has cooked alongside Raymond Blanc and Gordon Ramsay and hosts a podcast with over 6.5 million downloads — visits Milaidhoo in Baa Atoll on 11 and 12 December 2026. Day one is a hands-on workshop where guests cook beside him; day two is a wine-pairing dinner with pours chosen by the resort's sommelier.
Why it matters: a Maldives trip is usually booked around the villa and the lagoon, but these events give food-focused travellers a concrete reason to pick specific dates and properties. If you're already in the country in November, the Fushifaru and Meyyafushi dinners are bookable without an overnight stay, which makes them among the more accessible fine-dining tickets in the region. Reserve early — single-evening seatings at underwater restaurants don't linger.
