November is peak Dubai season — the summer heat has broken, the beach clubs have reopened, and the city has stacked its calendar with fitness events, club nights, theatre and restaurant openings. Here's what's worth knowing if you're heading to the UAE this month.

The biggest free draw is the Dubai Fitness Challenge, running until November 29. The idea is simple: 30 minutes of movement a day for 30 days, and visitors can join in. Highlights include Dubai Run, which shuts down Sheikh Zayed Road to thousands of runners, the mass Dubai Ride, beach workouts at Kite Beach, yoga sessions and paddleboarding. It's an unusual way to see the city — how often do you get to run down its main highway?

The events calendar is unusually strong. Trevor Noah plays four nights at Dubai Opera (November 25-29, tickets from Dhs295), Whitney Houston tribute show Queen of the Night arrives on November 6, and Ministry of Sound Classical brings a 31-piece orchestra playing 90s dance anthems — Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Darude — on November 7. For club fans, there's a serious run of nights: ANOTR at Playa Pacha (November 13), Adriatique's X show at Ushuaïa Dubai Harbour (November 14, third edition after two sell-outs), Marco Carola's Music On (November 20) and Ukrainian duo ARTBAT's UPPERGROUND (November 28). Nostalgia fans get In the Park at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on November 8 with Tinie Tempah, Ella Eyre, Professor Green and Sigma.

It's also Diwali season, with 11 days of celebrations from November 2 to 12 — the Noor Festival of Lights at Al Seef, festivities at Global Village, and special menus at restaurants like Jamavar and Kinara by Vikas Khanna. Diwali itself falls on November 8.

On the food front, Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno has opened two very different restaurants at One&Only The Palm: Casea 101 for Italian coastal dining, and L'Abysse, an intimate 34-seat French-Japanese spot with a 13-course omakase. 99 Sushi has relocated to a waterfront address at Dubai Creek Harbour, Latin American restaurant Casa Playa has debuted at Bungalo Tree Dubai on Bluewaters, and Keanu's is a new sourdough pizzeria on Al Wasl Road. Marsa Boulevard, the waterfront dining strip near Dubai Festival City, is back for its third season with new pop-ups from Loewe, Rare Beauty and Le Labo.

Fitness obsessives get HYROX at Expo City on November 27-28 — 8km of running and eight workout stations, with solo, doubles and relay categories, or spectator tickets at Dhs70. And if you fancy something quirky, London collective Aprtment Life is throwing a six-hour house and R&B session on a Dubai helipad on November 29 with one catch: a strict neutral dress code of beige, cream and sand tones only.

In short: if you want Dubai with sunshine you can actually enjoy, live music every night of the week and a city full of free stuff to do, November is your month.
