La Concha, the oceanfront landmark on Ashford Avenue in San Juan's Condado district, is in the middle of a busy upgrade cycle. The latest addition on the way is LUXE Azul Beach Club, a beachfront dining and entertainment venue slated to open by the end of 2026. Construction is already underway, with the resort's Sereno Beach Pool closed while the space is transformed — the main pool and the adults-only Marena pool stay open in the meantime.
If you're booking a stay specifically to try the new club, it's worth confirming the opening date before you reserve. It's a project in progress, not an amenity you can use today.
What you can book right now is something different: an art-forward room. La Concha's Art in Residence program, a collaboration with local gallery Galería SURCO, puts Puerto Rican contemporary art inside select Executive Corner Suites. The first Art Suite belongs to Carlos Rivera, known as Carlitos Skillz, a multidisciplinary artist from Bayamón. His one-bedroom suite in the Ocean Tower pairs ocean views with paintings, sculpture, ceramics, video art and a custom mural — much of it touching on family history, identity and Puerto Rico's rural landscapes.
Guests in the suite also get two free tickets to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and the chance to arrange a private visit with Galería SURCO. Four more Art Suites are planned, each dedicated to a different local artist.
The beach club is the newest chapter in a broader refresh at the property, which now sits in Marriott's Autograph Collection and recently added Levant, a Mediterranean restaurant from Chef Michael White set on the hotel's signature seashell-shaped structure. That curved, oceanfront building has long been one of the most recognizable sights in San Juan, and it makes a dinner reservation here as much about the setting as the menu.
La Concha's pitch has always been location. The beach is steps away, Condado's restaurants and bars are a short walk, and Old San Juan's historic streets and galleries are a quick ride. You get a resort stay without cutting yourself off from the city — no need to set aside a whole day just to leave the property.
For travellers, the timing matters. A stay this year comes with pool construction noise but a genuinely different kind of room to choose from; a stay from late 2026 should add the beach club to the mix. Either way, Condado remains one of the easiest ways to combine a beach holiday with real urban energy in the Caribbean.
