A wet and unsettled week is ahead for western Türkiye, with forecasters warning that Tuesday could bring the most disruptive weather. The country's General Directorate of Meteorology says heavy rain will spread in from the west, and officials are flagging a real risk of flooding and waterlogged streets in several major cities and holiday provinces.

The timeline runs like this: Monday brings rain to the western Marmara region, the Aegean coast and the western Mediterranean, with the Aegean provinces of Izmir, Muğla and Aydın plus western Antalya in line for the heaviest downpours. Parts of Muğla and Aydın could see very heavy to severe falls. Things deteriorate on Tuesday, when the wet weather widens to take in Çanakkale, Tekirdağ, Istanbul and Bursa in the northwest, alongside southern Izmir, Antalya, Muğla, eastern Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay in the south. Antalya and Muğla stay wet into Wednesday, keeping localised flood risk alive on the Mediterranean coast.

Istanbul's wettest day is Tuesday, with Monday and Wednesday expected to stay dry. Forecasting expert Abdullah Macit warned that flooding and inundation are possible in the city and urged people to take precautions. It comes with a temperature dip too — Istanbul is forecast to fall to around 15°C on Tuesday before recovering to roughly 19°C later in the week. Overall, western Türkiye will run below seasonal norms for temperatures all week, while the east holds at or above average.

Elsewhere, Ankara can expect showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday with temperatures dipping below seasonal averages in places. Izmir faces thunderstorms through the first three days of the week, with its southern districts hit hardest. Wind is a secondary concern: southerly winds pick up along the southern Aegean coast on Monday, northerlies strengthen across northern Marmara and the southwest on Tuesday, and eastern Central Anatolia could see southerly gusts briefly reaching storm force.

If you're travelling in Türkiye this week — or have flights, ferries or coastal trips booked — build in some slack. City breaks in Istanbul and Izmir will be damp and cooler than expected for the season, so a packable rain layer and waterproof shoes are worth the suitcase space. On the southern coast, Antalya and Muğla (think Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye) face the longest spell of rain, running into Wednesday, which could disrupt boat trips, canyon walks and beach days. Drivers should watch for surface water on Tuesday in particular, and anyone in low-lying or flood-prone areas should follow official Met alerts. The upside: conditions should ease later in the week as temperatures claw back toward normal.
