Ambergris Caye threw one of its warmest welcomes of the year on September 19th, when Miss World Belize Faith Edgar flew back into San Pedro Town after competing at the 73rd Miss World pageant in Vietnam. With bouquets in hand and a Belizean flag in tow, she was serenaded down the island by the San Pedro Marching Band, with fellow titleholder Zsaphirrah Coleman, Queen of the Bay, also on hand to congratulate her.
The reason for the celebration is a genuine first-tier achievement. At the grand final in Nha Trang on September 5th, Edgar made the Top 40 out of 111 contestants — a first for her, and only the second time a Belizean has ever placed at Miss World. She earned her spot by winning the "Beauty with a Purpose" challenge for the Americas and Caribbean region, thanks to "Smiles for Belize," her initiative to expand dental care access and oral health education in communities across the country.
That project is no pageant line-filler. Edgar has spent five years building her passion for dentistry and says she intends to pursue it "with pride, dedication, and purpose" — a nice reminder that behind the sashes and evening gowns, this competition often rewards real community work. Her pageant journey began well before the finale too: official activities kicked off on August 9th, with weeks of cultural and social events across Vietnam leading up to the September 5th show.
