From 1 November 2026, travellers heading to the island of Brač will have a faster way in. A new state-subsidised catamaran line, numbered 9605, starts running between Pučišća, Postira, Omiš and Split, cutting the crossing to the mainland to roughly 70 minutes.
Until now, getting to Split from these northern Brač towns meant a drive across the island to Supetar and then a ferry crossing. The new service changes that equation entirely for islanders — and quietly makes Pučišća and Postira far more reachable for off-season visitors too.
The route will be operated by the catamaran Tropic, run by Krilo Fast Ferries. The vessel is a 2022 build with room for 332 passengers, and crucially this is a year-round state line rather than a summer-only service. Sailing details are still being locked down, but the outline is clear: a daily departure from Pučišća at 06:15, a stop in Postira, then across the channel to the Port of Split. The return leg leaves Split at 16:15. Omiš, south along the mainland coast, gets included on Saturdays and Sundays.
One nearby village missed out. Povlja, further along the coast from Pučišća, had lobbied for inclusion — with backing from the mayor of Selca, Ivan Marjanović, and officials at county and state level. Options including seasonal stops and a reduced winter schedule were floated, but Povlja was left off the final line, a real disappointment after months of announcements.
Why does this matter if you're planning a trip? Brač is famous for Zlatni Rat beach near Bol and for Pučišća's white limestone, quarried for centuries and even used in Diocletian's Palace. Until now, most visitors funnelled through the Supetar ferry or flew into Bol. A fast, year-round catamaran from Split opens up the quieter northern villages without needing a car, and the 16:15 return makes an easy day trip feasible even in winter, when ferry timetables elsewhere thin out.
It also nudges Omiš into the frame as a two-centre option — cetacean-free cetina canyon rafting town meets island calm — with weekend sailings tying the two together. For anyone building a Dalmatian itinerary outside peak July-August crowds, this is a genuinely useful new thread in the transport map.
