Vancouver is going all-in on Halloween this year, and the city's late-October line-up gives travellers plenty of reasons to extend a fall trip to the Pacific Northwest. Whether you want full-on scares or something gentler with kids in tow, there's a spread of events running from now through early November.
The biggest ticket is Fright Nights at the PNE, billed as Western Canada's largest haunt. Playland's amusement rides take on a sinister vibe after dark, roaming performers stalk the midway, and multiple haunted houses run Wednesdays to Sundays until the end of October, from 6 to 11 p.m. (midnight on Fridays and Saturdays). Advance general admission is $41 at 2901 East Hastings St.
For something more atmospheric than terrifying, Astra Lumina has made its Canadian debut in Stanley Park, running all the way to March 13, 2027. It's a self-guided illuminated night walk through nine themed zones with large-scale installations, projections and an original soundtrack telling the story of stars descending to Earth. Tickets start at $27.20, and the historic Stanley Park Bus Loop gets you there by transit.
Also family-friendly: Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in North Vancouver, where the treetops are decked out with glowing lights, decorations and seasonal treats from October 9 to November 9, $29 per person. Over in Burnaby, the Burnaby Village Museum turns into a Haunted Village on October 30 and 31 — an open-air heritage site doubling as a haunt, complete with roving witches and vampires, for just $7.
Beer lovers get their own spooky moment at the North Shore Craft Beer Festival launch party on October 30 at 5 p.m. ($46.13), which includes two drink tokens, a commemorative mug, live music and dancing, plus seasonal pours from North Shore brewers. If you'd rather paint than pour, Strange Fellows Brewing runs a Halloween watercolour paint-and-sip on October 29 for $62.
Culture seekers have options too. The Orpheum is screening the 1920 silent horror classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on October 26 with live organ accompaniment — the last theatre organ in Canada still in its original home — plus a pre-show set from the Gatsby Strutters Jazz Band, all for about $21. At Granville Island's Improv Centre, the Deadly Dinner Party murder-mystery show runs Fridays and Saturdays until October 30 at $33.50, with a different performance every night. And for a big night out, beabadoobee brings her Powerlines Tour to Rogers Arena on October 28, with tickets from $56.90.
Rounding it out, Burnaby's city-wide Halloween Festival runs October 1 to November 8 with more than 17 free and ticketed events, including the Monster Dash 5K, Day of the Dead celebrations, escape rooms and cabaret nights.
For anyone planning a fall city break, this is a good window: Vancouver's Halloween events cluster within easy transit distance, several are budget-friendly (the Haunted Village is $7), and Astra Lumina's long run means you don't need to travel on the exact dates. Book PNE and Astra Lumina tickets ahead — peak-season weekend slots fill fast.
